Dried Cinnamon Apple Slices

Well, I'm still getting a handle on this whole blog writing thing BUT, I think I have officially decided that Wednesdays will be my "posting" days.  Every Wednesday I will post something new and hope that it gets read at least a few times :)  Today we will discover the art of dried apple slices...YUM!

Here's what you need:
apples (I used 2)
cinnamon
cookie sheet

Follow these steps:

1. Core your apples

2. Slice the apples
{Now, here is where I went wrong; the instructions I read told me to "thinly" slice the apples.  Apparently, thin is relative. Let us continue...}

3. Preheat the oven to 275 degrees & put the apples on your cookie sheet in a single layer
{fyi, the instructions I read also called for parchment paper, of which I had none.  I initially laid down wax paper in place of it and then realized they are completely different, duh!}

4. {Remove wax paper if you did what I did} Sprinkle your apple slices with cinnamon, set the timer for 1 hour and place them in the oven

5. {this step is hypothetical as I didn't get this far my first time} Flip the slices over after the first hour & let them bake for 1 more hour...but check on them every 30 minutes to make sure they don't burn!

Barefoot in my kitchen :)
Now, As I stated in Step 2...thin is relative :/ Unfortunately, I sliced my apples too thin and they burned just before the first hour was over.  They smelled delicious but were too crispy to have a good texture.  Tomorrow, I will be attempting a new batch {and slicing them thicker!} and will update this post then. :)

And now the part I dread...this was my final product:

Being that this...

...is the end result I was going for, I'd say I failed miserably.  Here's to hoping that tomorrow turns out better!

Happy Baking!

the ONE I could bring myself to try :)

*Edit* I attempted the apple sliced goodness again, slicing them thicker this second time.

I also buttered the cookie sheet in hopes that the slices wouldn't stick so badly.  Well, the final verdict is... I'm definitely closer to getting it right; BUT, it's not quite there yet.  The texture of this second batch was much better than the first but they still burned :/ Maybe next time!
